Selenium
It regulates the thyroid gland, protects the prostate, prevents tumours and heart diseases and counteracts skin ageing
Selenium is an essential trace element for our wellbeing because it is involved in many of the body’s vital processes. The foods richest in selenium are fish and animal organs. Other good sources are red meat, dairy products and cereals.
It has a powerful antioxidant effect, playing a protective role for cells against the aggression of free radicals, thus counteracting the effects of oxidative stress. At this level, it acts in synergy with Vitamin E in preventing cellular ageing.
Selenium allows cellular antioxidants to work well. It is also involved in various other processes, from DNA synthesis to thyroid hormone metabolism, infection protection and reproduction. It stimulates the immune system, as well as having an anti-inflammatory function and, together with Vitamin C, protects the body from infections, especially seasonal illnesses and influenza viruses. Protects against the risk of cardiovascular dysfunctions and other age-related diseases such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, etc.
In addition, Selenium is essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
